Samu Lamberg

Finnish Patent Attorney, European Patent Attorney, UPC Representative, Founding Partner

Patent professional since 1998, with Espatent since 2006.

I am one of the founders of Espatent, a role I arrived at through a series of good coincidences and choices. Technology had always interested me, particularly IT, as well as debating. Born in a papermill village, I had studied chemical engineering generally and papermaking as well as related physics and chemistry, which formed an apt basis for the job of patent attorney at Nokia. Patenting suited me perfectly - like a nose on my face. A rather large and distinguished one.

In patenting, I get to reach beyond the invention told by the client and explore boundaries of possibilities in terms of technology as well as commercial exploitation. Each invention concerns a new technical solution. The fields of inventions vary broadly, so there is always something new to learn. Here, technology combines with some legal and commercial thinking just right. They pay for debating about things that interest me! Technologies familiar to me include papermaking, IT, AI, ICT, crushing and screening of rocks, construction, control and measurement, vehicles, energy, cryo-technology, and many others.

Technical development is also inherently related to different cultures and practices. Here, the technology and patent law inherently meet different people as inventors, examiners. I get to choose rather freely how to best solve each task at hand.

My customers make or handle inventions for living. Typically, they know much of some technology, or at least they are creative. Working together with them is joyous. Joy is also of the values of Espatent. Success gives joy, helps in creative work, and good preparation also leads to successful outcomes.

See you with joy and pleasure!
